MONTGOMERY
- The Montgomery Biscuits (35-32; 69-69) loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Neil Walton grounded into a double play that tied the Southern League season record, ending the ballgame, 4-2 and giving the Jacksonville Suns (34-35; 67-72) the series victory.
The Suns took a 2-0 lead in the early going after Ivan De Jesus and Kelley Gulledge both hit solo home runs against Biscuits starter Jeremy Hellickson.
Hellickson allowed four runs in six innings of work, giving up six hits and walking two, while striking out eight. He took the loss, dropping to 4-4 with the Biscuits. Eddie Morlan and Ryan Reid followed with scoreless relief, but the Biscuits failed to provide much offense in the late innings.
Pat Cottrell got the Biscuits on the board in the third, leading off the frame with a single and scoring on a base hit from Walton. Cottrell was 4-for-4 with four singles, doubling his season high in hits. Craig Albernaz hit his first homer as a Biscuit to make the score 4-2 after four, but Montgomery would hit into four double plays and were unable to scratch a run in the final five frames.
Jesus Rodriguez (7.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 5 BB, 3 K) pitched well for Jacksonville, earning his fifth win before handing the ball to Clayton Allison for two scoreless frames and his first save.
The Biscuits and Suns finish out the season in an afternoon affair set for 3:05 on Labor Day. Mike Prochaska takes the mound for his final time as a professional, hoping to lead the Biscuits to victory and insure a winning season.
