Biscuits eliminated from playoff contention after 8-1 loss
Diamond Jaxx overwhelm Montgomery in rubber game of series

JACKSON, Tenn. - The back-to-back Southern League champs will not have the opportunity to defend their title in the 2008 playoffs.

With an 8-1 loss at Pringles Park in their last road game of the season, the Montgomery Biscuits (34-30; 68-66) were eliminated from playoff contention and lost the deciding game of the series to the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (28-36; 69-65).

Matt Spring provided the Biscuits' only positive moment with the club down to its final strike. On an 0-and-2 pitch two two outs, Spring helped the Biscuits avoid the sweep, clubbing a solo home run against Shawn Kelly, the catcher's eighth of the year.

The Jaxx, meanwhile, racked up 13 hits, including six doubles and a two-run homer by catcher Adam Moore. Ten of the hits and seven of the runs hung on Montgomery starter Mike Prochaska, who lost to drop to 5-5.

West Tenn starter Ed Paredes, in his second Double-A start, threw six shutout innings, scattering three hits and striking out six.

The Biscuits begin their final series of the 2008 season at Riverwalk Stadium Thursday night at 7:05 against the Jacksonville Suns. Lefty Jason Cromer will pitch the opener for Montgomery.
