- The Birmingham Barons (23-25; 63-55) clobbered the Montgomery Biscuits (29-19; 63-55) 11-5 Saturday night, snapping the Biscuits all-time high road win streak at 11 straight games.
The Biscuits and Barons were tied after six innings at five runs apiece. Montgomery plated four runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Johnny Raburn's two-run single. Matt Spring added another tally in the sixth, with a solo homer before Barons starter Justin Cassel handed the ball to his bullpen with two outs in the frame.
Jino Gonzalez started for the Biscuits and allowed five runs on seven hits, while walking four in five innings. Miguel Negron smacked a two-run triple and scored three runs, reaching base in 4-of-5 plate appearances.
After Gonzalez exited, Eddie Morlan provided two perfect innings, using just 16 pitches, but then the Barons won the battle of the bullpens.
Birmingham sent ten men to the plate in a six-run eighth inning against Roger Deago and Colter Bean. Both relievers were charged with three runs, as Robert Valido and Javier Castillo both knocked in a pair of baserunners in the rally.
Fernando Hernandez dealt one and 1/3 scoreless innings before giving way to Konekoa Texeira. Texeira got the win, adding another two scoreless frames and slammed the door on the Biscuits, striking out three and ending the game on a 6-3 double play with two on in the ninth.
The Biscuits wrap up the series Sunday night in a 5:05 start at Regions Park. It will be the final regular season affair between the Biscuits and Barons. Montgomery sends the lefthander Mike Prochaska to take on the Baron's Lucas Harrell.
