MONTGOMERY
- Rhyne Hughes and Gaby Martinez both launched solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to help lead the Montgomery Biscuits (26-18) to a 9-4 win over the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (18-26) in the rubber game of a five game set at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Biscuits jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Hughes RBI double in the second inning, but the Jaxx would come back, not once, but twice on homeruns in both the third and sixth innings, that eventually made the score 4-3.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Biscuits batted around. Martinez started the rally with a lead-off blast followed two batters later by Hughes' game-winner. The Biscuits also had two, two-out RBI singles from both Josh Asanovich and Rashad Eldridge.
Jaxx starter Brodie Downs left the game in the sixth inning, charged with six runs (5 ER) on six hits. Luiz Munoz followed, allowing another of Downs' runners to score as well as three of his own, which gave the Biscuits the ultimate 9-4 lead.
Mike Prochaska picked up a win in back-to-back starts for Montgomery after receiving nine runs of support from his teammates in each of his last two outings. The veteran lefthander allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings, before handing the ball to the combination of Eddie Morlan and Neal Frontz, that faced just one more than the minimum over the final three frames.
The Biscuits will get back to business on the road in a five game series with Birmingham starting Wednesday night in Hoover. Jason Cromer gets the nod in game one and will try to extend the Biscuits' eight game road win streak that began in Tennessee and Huntsville.
