MONTGOMERY
- The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (18-25) pulled even with the Montgomery Biscuits (25-18) in game four of their five game set Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium, with a 9-5 comeback win.
Johnny Raburn cleared the bases with one of his two triples, putting the Biscuits up 3-0 after two innings, but that would not be enough to hold down the Jaxx for long.
West Tenn answered right back in the top of third, scoring four runs on three hits with the benefit of two wild pitches and a hit batter by Biscuits starter Jino Gonzalez.
In the bottom of the inning, Gaby Martinez singled and Chris Nowak followed with a game tying triple. Nowak's blast actually left the ballpark, but was ruled playable after bounding off the rear black fencing in left field and back on to the field, costing the Biscuits a crucial run.
The score remained 4-4, until Gonzalez allowed a single and a walk to begin the fifth inning. He exited the game giving up five hits, six walks and striking out five, making way for reliever Steve Andrade.
The second batter Andrade faced was Sunday's hero for the Jaxx, Johan Limonta. Limonta connected with a bases clearing triple of his own in the fifth inning, giving West Tenn all they would eventually need to emerge with the win.
The Biscuits scored once more on a Rhyne Hughes sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth, but more bullpen woes sealed the Biscuits' fate the eighth frame. Ryan Reid allowed back-to-back-to-back hits for three runs, giving the Jaxx the 9-5 lead that they would hold until the final out.
Montgmery made it interesting, loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth for Nowak and Hughes. Despite previous late innings success, neither had the answer on this night against Jaxx reliever Justin Thomas, as Nowak struck out and Hughes lined back to the mound to end the ballgame.
The Biscuits and Jaxx will play the rubber game of the five game set, Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits, have not lost a series since June 29 and will try to keep that streak alive behind the left arm of veteran starter Jason Cromer. First pitch is set for 7:05.
