Biscuits win ninth straight, take opener from Jaxx, 6-5 Montgomery draws 12 walks, leaves 15 on-base

MONTGOMERY - The Montgomery Biscuits (24-16) extended their winning streak to nine games Friday night in the first game of a five game homestand against the visiting West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (16-24) at Riverwalk Stadium.

The Biscuits came back twice against the Diamond Jaxx, once in the sixth inning and again in the ninth.

Montgomery walked out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, drawing three walks from Diamond Jaxx starter Tracy Thorpe. Thorpe walked a total of five and the Biscuits would walk another seven times against the West Tenn bullpen, making 12 total free passes.

Jason Cromer started and lasted four and 2/3 innings for the Biscuits. Four hits, including a two-run double and a two-run home run in the fifth chased Cromer after allowing four runs on six hits.

Johnny Raburn's two-run triple in the sixth inning put the Biscuits back on top, 5-4 even after Montgomery was well on the way to stranding fifteen men on base.

After two and 1/3 scoreless frames from Biscuits reliever Steve Andrade, West Tenn tied the ballgame in the top of the ninth, blowing the save for Ryan Reid. The run scored without a Diamond Jaxx hit. Gabe Johnson was hit by a pitch and came around the bases after another walk and two sacrifices.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Biscuits scored the walk-off victory when Ronnie Merrill hit a fly ball to right with the bases loaded, driving home Matt Spring, for a season high ninth victory in a row.

Saturday night the Biscuits try to take the streak to double digits behind star prospect left hander David Price. Price remains undefeated in pro ball and will take the mound against Doug Fister at 7:05.
