Braves earn split with 7-5 win over Biscuits
Late push is not enough

MONTGOMERY - The Mississippi Braves (11-5; 41-45) re-asserted their position at the top of the South Division at Riverwalk Stadium Thursday night with a 7-5 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (5-11; 39-47).

Before 7,429 fans, the third-largest crowd in Riverwalk Stadium history, the Biscuits coughed up an early lead. Braves second baseman J.C. Holt singled, stole second base and scored after a pair of groundouts. The Braves batted around in the fourth and scored three more.

Montgomery managed only one hit against Braves starter James Parr, who lasted six innings and earned the win. The Biscuits did make the hit count, though, as Josh Asanovich slashed a fifth-inning double to score J.T. Hall.

Catcher John Jaso's three-run home run in the eighth got the Biscuits' offense rolling again, but it was too little too late. Montgomery scored once in the ninth on a two-out single by Ronnie Merrill.

The 5-11 Biscuits move on to Jackson, Tenn., to take on the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in a four-game series starting Friday.
