BayBears hammer five home runs in 12-8 win
Mobile tags Hellickson in Double-A debut

MOBILE - The Mobile BayBears (4-6; 33-47) smashed five home runs against new Biscuit Jeremy Hellickson (0-1), including back-to-back-to-back shots in the fifth inning, at Hank Aaron Stadium Friday night, as they topped the Montgomery Biscuits (3-7; 37-43), 12-8.

Hellickson had been 7-1 with a 2.00 ERA at Class-A Advanced Vero Beach before his promotion, and he was welcomed to Double-A rudely. Rusty Ryal hit the first pitch of the BayBears' second inning over the left field wall, and Frank Curreri followed four hitters later with a three-run blast.

The Biscuits scored four unanswered runs to even it up, though. J.T. Hall began the rally by hitting his first Biscuits homer in the third inning. In the fifth inning, Chris Nowak slashed a two-out, two-run opposite field double and Gaby Martinez knocked him in with a single to tie the score.

The tie was short-lived however, as the BayBears set several precedents in the fifth inning. With two outs and a runner aboard, Brian Byrne provided Mobile the eventual game-winner with a two-run moonshot to right field. Gerardo Parra was next, slashing a shot down the right field line. It rolled under some plastic chairs in the BayBears' bullpen, and Biscuits right fielder Sergio Pedroza stood by and asked for a ground rule double. It was not awarded, and Parra raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run, the first one ever by a Biscuits opponent.

The BayBears weren't though. Ryal hit the very next pitch out of the park for his second of the game. It marked the first back-to-back-to-back homers against Montgomery in club histroy, and the first time any one pitcher had given up five home runs. Hellickson departed immediately, having allowed eight hits and eight runs in 4 2/3 innings. Until this point, the most homers the righty had allowed in any one season was seven.

Things got sloppy late in the game, as Biscuits reliever Ryan Reid allowed four runs on three hits, two walks and three wild pitches in the Mobile eighth inning. Mobile reliever Jose Marte followed that by allowing two runs on two hits, two walks and two wild pitches in the ninth. But he struggled through to put the 3 hour, 14 minute game to bed.

The Biscuits and BayBears are even in the six-game series with two wins apiece. On Saturday night, the series continues with Biscuits lefty Jino Gonzalez against Mobile righty Cesar Valdez at 7:05.
