MONTGOMERY- The Mississippi Braves (3-1) won their third game in four tries against the Montgomery Biscuits (1-3) on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Mississippi Braves starter, Carlos Sencion, whirled a no-hitter through his first five frames of work, but it was not because of a lack opportunities or base runners for the Biscuits. In those five innings, seven batters reached base for Montgomery via four walks, a hit batsmen, a fielder's choice and an error that led off the game.
The Biscuits finally broke through against Sencion in the sixth, when John Jaso homered to right field, scoring Chris Nowak. Those were the only two runs Sencion allowed, and by then, it was too little, too late for the Biscuits after stranding a whopping 12 runners in the game.
The Braves got on the board in the third inning with a leadoff solo homerun from catcher Jose Camarena. Camarena got to Biscuits starter Mike Prochaska again in the fourth, with a two out RBI single that plated Greg Creek from second base. Prochaska survived the fourth, but not the fifth. After retiring the leadoff man in the fifth, Prochaska allowed the next five Braves to reach, and all five came around to score in the inning. It was Jordan Schafer's two run double that chased Prochaska and brought on reliever Jason Cromer.
Cromer faced another five batters in the inning, as the Braves brought 11 men to bat in the frame and scored six runs, making the score 8-0.
The Biscuits offense failed to score on the Braves bullpen, while Mississippi added an insurance run in the seventh, resulting in the final score 9-2.
The Biscuits will try and recapture their winning ways Saturday night in game five of the six game series. Montgomery will send spot starter Jino Gonzalez to the mound for his third start as a Biscuit. Kris Medlen makes also just his third start this season for the Braves. Max fireworks follow the 7:05 ballgame.
