Biscuits come back to even series, win 6-3
Barons fail to Clinch at least share of SL South

HOOVER– The Montgomery Biscuits (30-32) overcame a three run deficit to beat the Southern Division leading Birmingham Barons (36-26) at Regions Park Friday night.

Montgomery starter Jake McGee was touched up for runs in each of the first three innings. Miguel Negron led off the ballgame with a walk and came around to score on the first of two two-out RBI hits from Barons Leftfielder Ricardo Nanita. After a solo shot from Micah Schnurstein to start the second inning, Nanita plated Stefan Gartrell with an RBI double in the third.

McGee settled down in the fourth and did not allow a hit for the rest of the evening. He was pulled at the end of the sixth inning after giving up three runs on four hits while striking out two and walking three. The combination of newest Biscuit Ryan Reid and Colter Bean finished the game, tossing a combined three perfect frames while striking out four.

The Biscuits number nine hitter, Johnny Raburn, got the Biscuits on the board with an RBI groundout in the top of the second inning that scored Erold Andrus. The offense really got going in the fourth inning when the Biscuits sent ten batters to the plate and scored four more runs.

Johnny Raburn came through once again, lining a bases loaded single that brought home two runs and tied the game at three. Raburn would later collect his fourth RBI of the night on an adouble in the seventh.

The Biscuits worked a total of nine walks against the Barons pitching staff that ranks tops in the Southern League. Birmingham starter Kyle McCulloch was responsible for five of the nine walks and only lasted three and 2/3 innings, his shortest outing of the season. McCulloch allowed five runs on six hits which would have been enough to give the Biscuits the victory in game two.

The Barons will try to clinch at least a share of the first half Southern Division title again Saturday night in Hoover. The Biscuits will send stud right hander Wade Davis to the mound. Davis will be going for his team leading seventh victory against fellow righty Justin Cassel (4-3, 3.69) at 7:05 Central Time.
