16 hits are a season high

MONTGOMERY – The Montgomery Biscuits (28-31) made it two in a row Tuesday night, scoring double digit runs on double digit hits for the second straight night. Montgomery blasted the Carolina Mudcats (32-27) for a 10-5 win.
Carolina scored first for the fourth consecutive game in the series, but the Biscuits answered back with a barrage of hits that culminated in a 10-batter rally in the fifth inning. Leadoff man Rashad Eldridge reached base in all five of his at-bats, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. He had plenty of help behind him in the order as well.
From top to bottom the Biscuits lineup abused Carolina starter Brett Sinkbeil. Sinkbeil, a highly rated pitching prospect in the Marlins organization, lasted just 4 2/3 innings as he dropped to 2-6 on the season. The Mudcats righthander gave up 11 hits and eight earned runs while walking four and striking out three. The monster fifth inning would end Sinkbeil's outing, but not before Montgomery notched six runs on six hits in that frame alone.
Ronnie Merrill chipped in with two hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Gaby Martinez and Erold Andrus had big games for the Biscuits as well. Martinez, who has been an RBI machine of late, knocked in his team leading 40th and 41st RBIs with three hits, including an opposite field homerun which capped the Biscuits scoring in the sixth. Andrus also had three base knocks as he finished the night 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Biscuits starter Kevin Lynn lasted just 4 1/3 innings in his second start of the season, but the Biscuits offense was more than enough to give Lynn and the bullpen some breathing room. The Biscuits starter gave up a run in the first and another on a solo shot from Carolina third baseman Lee Mitchell in the second. He would exit in the fifth inning after some sloppy Biscuits defense resulted in three runs and the lead for the Mudcats. The trio of Jason Cromer, Brian Henderson and Colter Bean finished the night for Montgomery.
Cameron Maybin was in on the action once again for Carolina. He plated two runners, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, a stolen base and a walk. John Raynor also had a nice game for the Mudcats posting a 2-for-4 effort with a run scored, a walk and a couple of stolen bases.
Wednesday night the Biscuits will play the rubber game of the five game series with Carolina, tied at two games a piece. Carolina took the first series 4-1 earlier in the 2008 campaign. Sinker baller Richard De Los Santos will make his 11th start of the season for Montgomery and will oppose Derrell McCall who takes the hill for Carolina. After tomorrow evening's affair, the Biscuits will hit the road for five straight commutes with the first place Birmingham Barons. First pitch of the series finale is set for 7:05 Central Time at Riverwalk Stadium.
