Biscuits drop fifth straight, 5-3
Maybin leaves yard twice

MONTGOMERY – Cameron Maybin and the Carolina Mudcats (32-25) beat the Montgomery Biscuits (26-31) for the second time in as many days, handing the Biscuits their fifth straight loss. Sunday’s afternoon affair drops the Biscuits to 0-8 in day games at Riverwalk Stadium.
Maybin got to Biscuits starter Jake McGee early when he smashed a solo home run with one out in the first inning. Maybin struck McGee again, hitting another solo shot in the top half of the sixth. The Marlins’ number one prospect would finish the day going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Gaby Sanchez also had another big day for the Mudcats with two hits, a run and an RBI.
McGee settled down after allowing three runs on two hits through the first two innings. His afternoon ended at the seventh-inning stretch after allowing four runs on eight hits. The southpaw struck out seven and walked just one.
The Biscuits kept themselves in the game behind the solid offensive performances of Rashad Eldridge and Rhyne Hughes. Eldridge led off the game with a single, stole second base and came around to score one of his two runs on an RBI double from Hughes. Hughes was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Southern League ERA leader and Carolina starter Ryan Tucker took the win for the Mudcats, giving up just one run through five innings of five-hit ball. He also struck out four and walked three. The Biscuits had a chance to come back against reliever Carlos Martinez after scoring two runs on Jarrett Santos, who took over for Tucker. Martinez struck out potential game tying run Gaby Martinez with Hughes on third to end the game.
The Biscuits will try and get a much needed win tomorrow night, when righty Wade Davis faces off against the third right hander in a row for Carolina, Daniel Barone. Action will get started at Riverwalk Stadium at 7:05 Central Time Monday evening.
