Braves edge Biscuits, 2-1
Mississippi's first inning runs hold up
|
PEARL, Miss. – The Mississippi Braves scored two first-inning runs against Montgomery Biscuits starter Richard De Los Santos at Trustmark Park Tuesday evening. It was all the Braves needed, as they clinched the series with a 2-1 win.
The Braves knocked out three consecutive two-out hits in the first inning to take the lead and did not manage another hit in De Los Santos' seven innings. Braves starter Tommy Hanson, in his Double-A debut, ensured that his team didn't need any.
Hanson allowed only one run and struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings, only allowing one run and five hits.
Hanson departed after walking two in the seventh inning, with the possibility of a win, loss or draw in his Double-A debut. But reliever Ryan Basner got a double play and threw another scoreless inning to help preserve the lead.
The Biscuits' only run came in the fifth on a Johnny Raburn groundout.
The Braves cinched a series victory with the win. The final game of the series is Wednesday morning at 11, with righty Wade Townsend against Braves righty Jerome Gamble.
