Biscuits and Barons split doubleheader
Biscuits walk off with 4-3 win, drop nightcap, 9-5

MONTGOMERY – Gaby Martinez's walkoff homer in the first game of a doubleheader at Riverwalk Stadium Friday night gave the Montgomery Biscuits a 4-3 win. But the Birmingham Barons had plenty of offense in store for game two, winning the nightcap, 9-5.

The homer was Martinez's second of the game. his two-run homer in the fifth inning had tied the game at 2-2, and the Biscuits took the lead when Rhyne Hughes followed with a solo shot of his own. In the sixth inning, Birmingham catcher Cole Armstrong hit a two-out homer to recapture a share of the lead, hanging the first earned run of the year on Steve Andrade's record.

In the second game, the Barons shelled starter Wade Townsend for four runs in three innings and hung four more on Jeff Kamrath in the fourth. Kamrath also walked four in the inning and tied a Southern League record by throwing four wild pitches. He left with apparrent arm discomfort with two outs in the fourth.

The Biscuits scored three in the fourth inning with two outs, including a two-run triple by Pat Cottrell and an RBI double by Matt Spring.

The Biscuits won the series, three games to two.

Montgomery travels to Mississippi to begin a five-game series Saturday night at 7:05. Jake McGee starts for the Biscuits.
