Moore and Vogt Named Post-Season All-Stars
Biscuits battery honored as best at their positions
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Southern League announced Wednesday that two Biscuits have been selected to the 2011 Post-Season All-Star Team. Matt Moore has been named the top left-handed pitcher in the league, and Stephen Vogt has been honored as the league's top catcher.
Both players have spent the last month in triple-A Durham, but dominated the Southern League for the season's first four months. Moore, 22, went 8-3 for the Biscuits over 18 starts and posted a league-best 2.20 ERA, winning five-straight starts before his promotion. He recorded an incredible 131 strikeouts in 102 innings, while walking just 28. Moore's biggest highlight came on June 16th in Mobile, when he hurled the first no-hitter in Biscuits history against one of the league's top offenses in the BayBears. He also stole the show with a perfect inning at MLB's All-Star Futures Game in Arizona in July. Since his promotion to Durham, Moore is 3-0 with a 1.35 in eight starts, and has reached the 200-strikeout plateau for the second year in-a-row.
Vogt, 26, was on pace to shatter the Biscuits' RBI record at the time of his promotion. He was leading the team with a .301 average, had crushed a career-high 13 homers, and accumulated 85 RBI over the first 97 games of the season. A versatile player that can play first base or left field in addition to catching, Vogt has continued his hot-hitting in Durham. Despite a recent skid, his average still sits at .299 with 3 HR and 19 RBI in 27 games with the Bulls.
Moore and Vogt become only the 11th and 12th Biscuits to be named Post-Season All-Stars in team history, and it's only the third time multiple Biscuits have been honored in the same season.
Chattanooga and Mobile, the favorites to face off in the Southern League Championship Series, led the way with three selections each to the team.
