Biscuits Blown Out in Series Opener
7-0 hole proves insurmountable in loss to Mudcats

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Carolina Mudcats (44-52) climbed out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back, dropping the Biscuits (53-42) to their third straight loss, 11-6 Thursday at Riverwalk.

After the Mudcats used a two-out error to score an unearned run in the first, Jake Kahaulelio homered to make it 2-0 in the second. They’d get one more in the third, then poured across four in the fourth, chasing starter Jake McGee (2-6) from the game with a bases-clearing double from Luis Terrero, making it 7-0.

The Biscuits got on the board with a Leslie Anderson solo-shot in the sixth, but after cutting it to 7-2 one inning later, Sergio Espinosa went on to allow one in the eighth and three in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

The final four Biscuits runs came on two out hits in the bottom of the ninth, with Rashad Eldridge, John Matulia, and Chris De La Cruz all driving in runs.

McGee lasted just 3.0, and gave up a season-worst seven runs (five earned) on nine hits. The 18 hits total allowed by Biscuits pitching on the night came one short of the season-high mark. Carolina starter Travis Webb (5-6) allowed only one run on seven hits over six innings pitching, striking out seven and walking one to get the win.

Reliever Ryan Reid was one of the lone bright spots for the Biscuits, tossing three scoreless innings.

Leslie Anderson led the Biscuits by reaching three times, going 2-4 with a walk. Emeel Salem recorded his team-leading 28th multi-hit game of the season by going 2-5.

RHP Jeremy Hall will throw for the Biscuits on Friday, which is Rays Night at Riverwalk, beginning at 7:05. RHP Matt Fairel will counter for the Mudcats. The Biscuits are planning to celebrate their 2 millionth fan, which will walk through the gates at some point Friday.
