Biscuits Settle for Split in Marathon DH
3-0 win in game one, 4-3 loss in 12 in game two
MONTGOMERY, AL – The Biscuits (48-39) settled for a doubleheader split Saturday at Riverwalk, winning game one 3-0, but falling to the Mobile BayBears (46-41) 4-3 in a 12-inning marathon in the capper.
The Biscuits had tied the game up at 3-3 in the seventh inning of game two, getting three infield singles against Josh Ellis, who had not allowed a run all season. Rashad Eldridge’s sacrifice fly tied the game and sent it into extras.
The BayBears got a one-out walk from Evan Frey to start the 12th against Josh Satow, and after a Paul Phillips (3-3) wild pitch, an RBI-single from Collin Cowgill that would prove to be the winner.
Dan Stange (1-1) pitched 2.1 scoreless relief frames for the BayBears to get the win. He was one of seven pitchers used by Mobile in the game.
In game one, the Biscuits managed just two hits against Wade Miley, but they were both homers. Henry Wrigley hit a two-run shot in the first, and Drew Anderson knocked a solo-homer in the fifth. Miley (1-1) took the loss despite allowing only two hits over a complete-game performance.
David Newmann (3-6) tossed five scoreless to pick up the win in the first game, with Matt Gorgen collecting is 17th save by working two scoreless innings to finish the contest.
Leslie Anderson led the Biscuits, going 3-8 on the evening. Wrigley and Craig Albernaz each recorded two hits.
The Biscuits begin the All-Star break now, resuming action on Wednesday at 6:05 from Five County Stadium in Zebulon, NC, against the Carolina Mudcats. Starters have not yet been announced.
