Five Biscuits Named All-Stars
Anderson, Gorgen, Torres, Hall, and Downs honored

MONTGOMERY, AL – The Southern League’s All-Star Teams were announced today by the Southern League offices, and the Montgomery Biscuits are proud to announce five players voted onto the South Division Team.

2B Drew Anderson, starting pitchers Alex Torres and Jeremy Hall, reliever Darin Downs, and closer Matt Gorgen have all been selected by league managers and media. Downs, who has since been promoted to Triple-A Durham, will not be able to participate.

Anderson, a seventh-year pro out of Ohio State, has played six different positions for the Biscuits. His .293 average is tied for the team lead, and his six triples rank second-best in the league.

Opening day starter Alex Torres has paced the starting staff all season, leading the Biscuits with seven wins. He’s been amongst the league-leaders in strikeouts and ERA all-season. Jeremy Hall set a new Biscuits record this season with 35 consecutive scoreless frames en route to his All-Star honors.

Gorgen, the 2009 Rays Minor League Relief Pitcher of the Year, leads the Biscuits with 28 appearances, and has converted 14 of 15 save chances while pacing the Biscuits with a 1.59 ERA. Downs had dominated to the tune of a 6-2 record and a 1.69 ERA over 18 appearances. He was promoted June 21st.

South Division first-half champ Jacksonville led the way with 10 players chosen.

The Southern League All-Star Game will be played at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville on Monday, July 12th at 6:00 CT.
