Moore Headed to Futures Game
Biscuits lefty to represent United States in prestigious event
MONTGOMERY, AL – Biscuits starting pitcher Matt Moore has been named to the United States Roster for the 2011 XM All-Star Futures Game to be played at Chase Field in Phoenix on Taco Bell All-Star Sunday, July 10th at 5:05 CT.
Now in its 13th year, the Futures Game features the top prospects in all of baseball separated into World and U.S. rosters of 25 players each. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN2, MLB.tv, and XM-175.
The Biscuits Opening Night starter and the South Division's starter in the All-Star Game, Moore went 4-3 in the first half with a 2.43 ERA, and his 103 strikeouts are 28 more than any other pitcher in the league. He made history on June 16th in Mobile, throwing the first no-hitter in team history against the Mobile BayBears. A native of Albuquerque, NM, Moore entered 2011 ranked as the #2 prospect in the Rays system.
Moore becomes the fourth Biscuit in team-history to play in the game, with Evan Longoria suiting up for the U.S. squad in 2007, Desmond Jennings in 2009, and Alex Torres last year.
He'll be joining fellow Southern League stars Paul Goldschmidt (Mobile), Arodys Vizcaino (Mississippi), Jhan Marinez (Jacksonville), and Alfredo Silverio (Chattanooga), along with fellow Rays farmhand, Charlotte Stone Crabs shortstop Hak-Ju Lee
The Biscuits begin the second half with a five-game set against the Jackson Generals at Riverwalk tonight. Nick Barnese will throw for the Biscuits against Tom Wilhelmsen at 7:05.
