Riverwalk Stadium One of "Coolest"
Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium featured on national list
MONTGOMERY, AL – Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium has once again received national recognition, this time getting named one of the "25 Coolest Minor League Ballparks in America".
The list, released last week by Complex Magazine, ranks Riverwalk as the 23rd "coolest minor league park in the country" and draws a comparison to a Big League park.
"Built into the facade of a decommissioned train station," Complex's Jack Erwin wrote, "Riverwalk easily trumps San Diego's Petco Field for the Best Use of an Existing Structure award in ballpark design."
Complex also praised the curve built into the wall in the right field corner.
"Montgomery went for a more understated approach to ballpark idiosyncrasy when they opened Riverwalk in 2004, including a simple, notched curve in right field to accomodate a flag pole, a feature that doesn't call too much attention to itself, and doesn't make outfielders feel like they're playing in an amusement park funhouse."
The Biscuits are in their eighth season in Riverwalk Stadium, and have received numerous distinctions on a national level for their downtown ballpark. ESPN.com has featured Riverwalk on its Sports Travel Series, and Travel Channel's Man vs. Food called the now-famous Chicken Biscuit with Alaga Syrup the 4th-best ballpark food in the country, major or minor league.
Complex Magazine is a men's lifestyle magazine circulated in 500,00 households nationwide, touted as "The Original Buyer's Guide for Men".
The Biscuits will wrap up their 2011 home schedule with a ten-game homestand beginning Sunday, August 21st, and running until Tuesday, August 30th. Highlights of the homestand include Charities Night on Friday the 26th, Alabama/Auburn Night presented by WLWI and 95.1 the Fox on the 27th, and Fan Appreciation Night to close out the season on the 30th. MAX Fireworks Spectaculars will follow all three of those nights.
