Skid Snapped: Biscuits Tied for First with 5 Games Left
Thomas double proves to be difference as Biscuits rally to beat Suns 7-4
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Biscuits (71-63/35-30) trailed 4-1 but used a Mark Thomas (above) go-ahead double in the seventh inning to defeat the Jacksonville Suns (68-67/35-30) 7-4 and jump back into a tie for first-place Tuesday night at Riverwalk.
Omar Luna led off the seventh with a double, followed by a Derek Dietrich single to put runners on the corners with only one out in a tie game. Thomas then smacked a double down the leftfield line, scoring Luna and Dietrich to give the Biscuits their second lead of the night. Kyeong Kang added an RBI-single to give the Biscuits a 7-4 lead.
After the Biscuits scored the first run of the game in the third, the Suns came back with a four run fourth inning. Montgomery responded with a three run fifth, highlighted by a Mikie Mahtook RBI and a Dietrich two-run single to tie the game at four.
Marquis Fleming (4-5) pitched two scoreless innings without surrendering a hit for the win. Matt Nevarez (1), in his Biscuits-debut, struck out a pair in a perfect ninth inning to pick up his first save as a Biscuit.
With the win, the Biscuits are tied with the Suns for first-place in the South Divsion with five games remaining. Montgomery starts a five-game set with the Huntsville Stars Thursday at Riverwalk to wrap up the regular season. RHP Merrill Kelly will get the ball for the Biscuits. The Stars will send RHP Johnnie Lowe to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
